Lobna, The Land of Sugar

Reactive, reactive, and reactive

I was,

A compass of exaggeration drawing semicircles Only,
and my wounds I cluster into a nomadic fragranced nut,
A drop of oblivion falling off the throne of vulnerability,
The dignified, his bearing and the haunting souls of love, languishing, Despair,
The button cavity of a slashed button and the hidden "S" of the Sun,
The lingering nights of the amorous
The meager basin of patience
And the homeless kin of no relatives, no country,
The burden gauge I was, and the paper man

That’s how I was, the rough script divided
On papers, a nameless seabird,
And a superstitious partisan.

Her Right Hand

The heap of thyme,
Green it seeps, or spreads, or fades,
I don't postulate, I surrender

Myrtle or carnation,
Peaches or grape vine,
Fleur-de-lis or raspberry,
I don’t remember

How did your warmth hold onto a colour?
How could a colour become redolent?
Does a color sublimate? does it disperse?
Condense? Does it evaporate?
I don't remember

How does your colour a piano of musk bathe?
And your piano grows into too ripe a date,
Pouring out, across my years, to reach my ache
just about your fiddling finger?
How could planet earth become a bracelet
Laid to the east of the ring-made finger?
And the sugar grows to be Lobna,
And how could Iyad grow to be Caesar?
Oh, I surrender

Lobna...

How could your voice hug my necktie? How does
It sprinkle  the exile golden?
And your whisper vivify a land at sea?
How could you
Recreate me inch by inch
And the script of shards grows to be marble?

A river was baptized in your eyes one morning,
And peace dropped in on a twain of pigeons
All along your neck  you shelter,
And one morning was baptized a river,
A stream of Wayfareres lodged round a bracelet
Laid to the east of the ring-made finger.

What land is this that gathers a torn man,
Empowering him to unite a land ripped by an epoch of great oppression.

Symbols of love, loyalty,or Poetry
I don't remember,echoed:
It’s Iyad's Lobna Land
Lobna,
The Land of Sugar.

Poem was originally written in Arabic

Dr. Iyad Salah

"Lobna is a Middle Eastern feminine name"

yes...I do enjoy these. Very nicely done... the fact it was written in Arabic first seems to influence the movement of language and the image presentation..adding an air of what to western minds would seem mystical..

Capt Hair
Many thanks for your comments. The art of poetry is an innovation and the art of translation is another type of innovation. I have attempted to “balance things out” and to transform the poetic scene as delicately as we carry a newly borne pretty babe. I would like to kindly ask you for more comments if you have any. Thanks a lot.

Hey Noah
I don’t know how to climb the throne of words you have established. I indeed feel flattered. It is the clean spirit abiding in your territories that render you look at this the way you looked at it. Very pleased to this poem shared with you. May God bless you with peace of mind and soul.

With all due respects, I remain
