Will i wear it well
or will it ravage me down some long corridor?

Will i master it, outsmart it?
or fall helpless to its undertow
beneath the raging fire where i still grow aglow,

in baritone voice
thickened waist and mustache,
perhaps a handlebar one,

if i choose not to be enslaved
to the razor's edge, anymore,

Will i forget i'm a siren
becoming a matron
or a blabbleing washerwoman,
feeding god's lost souls,

Will the truckers still eye me
or will i be effaced,
faceless as last night's dancing girl
round a pole,

Will i spin in the wash
and poof.....
adhere to conventions,
polyester pantsuits, prim and proper
with a big belly sticking out proud and portly,
like a penguin, stiffened legs, glued together,
sexless, with sensible shoes,
legs crossed at the ankles,

or Will i ignore
the sshhhhhhhhh ing......the hushed matriachs,
the holiday dinners where i first heard
about it all between the courses,
wearing long pigtals, listening behind the doors,
to myths of the curse, the evil eye,
and old wives tales forever etched in mind,

they made me fear it and stamped it
on my femininitiy,

and me the goddess, me the whore
me the poet, me the dreamer

Will i be driven mad by its onset,

or Will i wither and fade in transparancy,
becoming a shell of the young woman, stolen
soon to be erased like the others before

Oh Inked Wonder...
You have forgotten only one brilliant line...you are like the river...flowing through time among these pages, among these changes and forever in our embrace.
Besides, you rock. TD

Happens to the best of us and denied many way too soon. Like a fine wine you get better with age and you wont have the worries of the bad girl syndrome. Let it happen without reservation

Amazing as usual, questions always questions. Who knows what time holds just know that you worn it well and made the most of it when you could

change is not always as it seems, good write and as far as fading I agree seems unlikely power is in the words of the writer.

Michele, I doubt very seriously that these will happen to you.
You can even come through the menopause sexy. LOL

Your phrasings are sublime
Altho' they're not in rhyme.
You well outline the fears
that chase us through the years.
But yet I think your notions
don't impact emotions.
For surely your heart floats free
As ever was meant to be.

Lovely write..KJ

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light
