Gnarled old cedar, which had stood the years
Watching the joys, hearing the tears
Three generations of which I knew
Had played around, neath skies of blue

Standing alone in that shaded park
Home of squirrel and nest of lark
Braving the winds and nature’s best
Came the storm, which laid to rest

With tear in eye, I touched the bark
Of fallen giant, in that shaded park
For it’s time had come, as all things do
Leaving memories behind in gentle pursue

I left my friend who had heard so much
My hand still tingling from that last touch
Though soon to be gone from earthly sight
I remember the boy who had held it tight

As I walked away, my eyes did fall
And at my feet, struggling to be tall
Was a young cedar lifting its head
Rising out from leafy bed

With all the care that I could take
The seedling was transplanted for growths sake
The wind will whisper, long after I’m gone
To other children who will hear cedar’s song

Listening to every heart

For upon the branch of the cedar tree
a cedarwing will sing for me
a sound that heaven will listen to
the sound of life, round me and you...

You're back.  Now stay put for a little while, and add some more logs to the fire.  Settle in for the winter, Logan, so that we may all enjoy your poet's view.

I like this...I had a tree I felt this way about.   I was sad to see it go.

Awesome job...

Logan, my hubby planted a tiny cedar tree when his father passed in 1990. Now it is tall and proud, waving at us just outside the window. What would we be without trees of any kind? Enjoyed this write. Chris

Logan

This brings to mind Michelle's flowering peach tree when it died and left many little seedlings.  I love the new beginnings in this and the memories of the man and boy.

I love the scent of cedar, and the beautiful way this tree grows.
And the poem rests as comfortably upon this blue screen as it will in my library.

Very soothing, and that's exactly what I most needed today. Thanking you for this one, Logan.

Oh my sweet keeper...you write me mothy tree hugging heart with this one...Last month I was in a 300 year old cemetary in the ozarks of MO. While the others marveled over the head stones dating back to early 1800s...I was captivated by the Cypress, Cedar and Black Elms that were so old their bark had actually become braided...limbs bigger around than most trees trunks...I got emotional touching one Redwood Cedar had 3 places that had been struck by lightening,
the bark and limbs knarled and twisted and still, it was one the most beautiful, magestic, things I had ever seen...
When I get my film developed...I will send you pics.

An absolutely breathtakingly beautiful piece of writing that has left me in awe.  It is so lovely to read your words once again and I hope all is well in your life.
