DARK JOURNEY

No turning back.
The cage door's closed.
Down we plummet,
faster than my heart beat.

Are we rising?
It's an illusion.
Downwards,
close to hell.

Cage unlocked
we meet our mentor,
urging men to
watch their language.

Under tunnels,
deep dark places.
Shining teeth in
blackened faces.

Tour has ended,
back to daylight.
On a sigh
I breathe amen.

Discarding lamp,
boots and knee pads.
Unique experience but
I'll never go down that again.

On a sigh,
I breath.  Amen!

How wonderful. I see this as a journey into that wonderful inspiration of art...Depression. Very well said...and I enjoyed it. It really began to flow around the 3 stanza and ended with a wonderful soothing slope to complement a climax that never really came. Great write! ~DW~

I once went spilunking with my daughter, it was dark, damp and totally suffocating. Your poem brought back so many memories. Thanks...I think.
