Now the bullets song Death-hums The child to sleep; Has broke the mornings peace With a sound that shook, Deaths rattle. * Unaware Is the singer, Or the musics sender Of those tiny ears, Where from out now Blood runs free. * Deaf, The dead child hears No life bell ringing, Nor its mothers cry, Cannot feel Her bosom clutching, Desperate rocking Blind, It cannot see Her arms thrown God-ward, Or the trembling Of her lips Repeating questions, Pleading answers Between sobbing, Screaming One word lines... "why" "why" "WHY" * Quiet now But for wails, The only other sounds Come from the pawns. Khakis rustling, Metallic Chambers, Loading Locking. Metronomes Of death, Mechanical. * Soldiers of misfortune, Moving on. |

We are a violent species. One day with hard work and a bit of luck, in perhaps a thousand years we will begin to build peace. Thank you for shring these painful images here. |

Startime and Angel...:-) Beneath the "quiet" a different kind of soldier rages, fighting to believe that the stupidity of war would end in his lifetime. Alas it has not, yet he still lives...and believes, as a greater poet once said "Hope dies last". Thank you for reading this poem and for your soft comments.....ice |

Icebox If this violent species does not learn to live in peace soon, I believe that it will not exist, the trial of a thousand years has already be transcripted, a verdict seems to be soon called in. The painful image in this poem was inspired by a picture of an Afghan mother and her dead child...(pick any modern war, these images can be found in everyone of them) In the background was a group of soldiers moving out, ther job was done there...These could have been soldiers from any army.. Thank you for commenting.....ice |

ice...I saw from your poem the exact photo that you talk about in your reply. The mourning of mothers to me, is the most audible sound that war makes. I wish for peace too! Great poem! |

Wonderful ending on this one. The whole poem hurts. I wish war never had to happen. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |
