When I'm down and feeling blue.
And it seems as if there's nothing I can do.
I get up and turn my radio on.
And listen to my favorite songs.
The music has a soothing beat.
The next thing I know, I'm moving my feet.
As I listen to the words of the song.
I hum aloud and sing along.
As each word slides out of my mouth.
The pains inside start to drift out.
There's a calming peace that takes over my soul.
No more is my heart, black as coal.
For the music has given me a new sense of satisfaction.
And now my thoughts are no longer distractions.
And when the song is about to end.
I feel love, family, and friends once again.

Music is the most beautiful escape. Love it, too. Without it life would be so empty. A talent that rivals no other for calming the savage beast within. I loved reading this!

Hi AngelBlueeyes.. I don't mean to say music is better than poetry. It's not so. I did not mean that at all. I hope you will understand it was not like that when I wrote what I did. I was just saying what the old adage says about Music soothes the savage beast. Thanks for sharing your wonderful words. I just know you will understand what I meant.

Bless ya bunches,

SharaRose: My dear lady there are no worries, I fully undestand what you were saying. My music is just as important to me as my poetry for it's a part of me and who I am

littlewing:Yes, I do It is within the words of others and the beats of our hearts and soul that we can find this sweet redemption.

S Arthur Grey:I can't say that it's bettter than poetry, but I come from a music oriented family. My music is just as much important to me as my poetry. They both have their meaning and their time and place to help me throughout life

passing shadow:That's right my friend.Through the release of your tears is the pain the flows from within. You are releasing that pain into the open and freeing yourself to be the beautiful spirit that you are

Music heals in many ways. It can bring a smile, make your feet tap, or bring tears of joy or sadness.
One time when the stress of the world was getting me down I turned on my music. I was on an exercize bike. So I decided to keep time with the music. The music was upbeat something about a miracle and the miracle is you. It was fast. It was so fast my feet kept falling off the petals. Then I started to laugh. By the time the music finished I to popped to be stressed. Music is a healer.
Good one.

Usually, I am very sound sensitive.  I play music at low levels, but apparently in the mornings (when I am up before all the two legged pets in the house) I play my music VERY loudly.  This has been pointed out from time to time by others who I notice are shouting to be heard.

It must have something to do with kick starting my brain in the mornings.

If the melody doesn't grab me, I'll never reach the words, and if the words were more important, I'd read a poem, but both are integral facets.  Still, I would choose music without even a fraction of hesitation -- it's more visceral.  But what's wrong with having both?

Crystal, how right you are and music does heal in more ways than one.
It takes over our minds and our bodies, and lets us feel again..
Very nice poem and i am sure... many feel the same way..

Bonnie J: Yes it can do those things and more.I'm glad it brought you to laughter to help lift your spirit

icebox:Well we all need some kind of kickstart and if yours is music so be it.I listen to my music almost all the time

Mark:I so agree I'll take the both for they shape me and I learn from them both on a daily basis. It is with the passion in my words and the intensity or softness in my voice that sculpts the kindred spirit within

Patricia: I hear you lady.I'm forever listening to the stuff my kids listen to

(smiles) Oh Crystal, as a boy whenever I was depressed and felt no one could relate to how I felt, I heard Counting Crows and Hootie & The Blowfish and they convinced me that I wasn't the only one feeling those tears, and then as I continued to grow up, I loved listening to many more artists and now I love almost all music, especially Shakira, who writes beautiful upbeat and spiritually lifting songs and world music! (kiss on cheek) I believe music is the beating of ones heart amplified, the universal language that brings harmony between us all and the ultimate communicator to ones soul! (big hugggssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, I love this, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Crystal, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

i completely agree as a musician and general music enthusiast. you've got it right, keep writing what you feel.

and even when everything was wrong, and we were mad at the world, it was still beautiful.
