in the shadows

I've run a crooked mile,
talked a crooked smile,
cheated friends
and even robbed a church;
I've fought for truth
sworn to lies,
straightened out some heads
and wrecked a few;
I've protested for righteousness,
stolen rice to eat,
turned the other cheek
tried heroic deeds
and run away;
through it all admitting
it was me.

I've been stone poor
and I've been rich,
I've played a shrink
I've been insane,
done drugs and wine and wicca,
groups and esp,
I've been a cop,
a murderer,
a spy,
a patriot assassin,
ditch digger,
hypnotist,
stevedore,
gypsy trucker,
soda jerk,
body guard,
telegrapher,
rock band roadie,
counselor
laborer
gardener,
bartender,
potter
weapons maker,
scholar dirt bag biker;
I've pumped gas
baked bread
panned gold
dug jewels,
built railroads
gardens, houses
cars
and death.
I've always been a priest.
I've painted
rhymed
and written songs,
been called a genius
and a prophet,
a coward and a hero,
I know I've been a fool,
and through it all
was trying to stay free.

icebox

and out of all those things you've been and done, staying free was probably the most difficult one?  Amazed by you!

Your writing is larger than life mister!
I think you've fit every one of us in here.

What a mixed bag, and how utterly cool is this!

through it all admitting
it was me.

~That my friend, makes you so much better then most~

I know I've been a fool,
and through it all
was trying to stay free.

~I think we all fight for our freedom, one way or another.  As for being a fool~Aren't we all? The good the bad and the ugly, all part of life.

Since I am sitting here going over every word you wrote, can you tell how much I love it?

And all of these things you are
make you one very interesting man..
and a profound writer.
Love this!

You are true and caring man that shows what is within his heart and soul.Wether good or bad and that's not an easy thing to do. Therefore I know you are an angel from the heavens above

things, people wear many masks these
days.   thanks for sending this too

My spirit will rise
above the sea~
There will be no drowning
of my soul or me~
