Little Flower Child When fishes flew and forests walked and figs grew upon thorns, my mind was busy sealing wax and offering the morn. ‘Twas but a day of solitude that wakened wizened men and filled them with some platitude relinquishing their yen. The animals were sore afraid to leap, to dance, to crow, for ‘twould wake the maid beyond the grass and call the weeds to grow. A sip of one too many had passed my lips in play and all the fields o’plenty were harvested as hay. Then sleep did come to soothe my soul and reap la fleur d lis and I did find my dreams grow numb and weep the day with me. ©August 21, 2003 The above poem was a challenge at an online poetry workshop. The italicized first line was provided and we were challenged to compose a poem including it. This is my attempt. Whether on the shoal or on the shore, I'll seek the lighthouse evermore. You have more than met the challenge, Ma'am, and any others on that site would be hard pressed to do any better. Outstanding job. We are all equal but we’re individually different |
