“No noble and exalted life exists,” he once said, “without knowedge of devils and demons, and without continual struggle against them.” -- Hermann Hesse, “The Glass Bead Game” “No noble and exalted life exists without knowledge of devils and demons..." They walk like shadows in our midst. They follow us like blind believers. We seek uprightness and repent. We plead to them not to perturb us. And rarely do we comprehend -- without them, we lose our purpose. Without shadows, there’s no light. One day, when we attain our freedom, we’ll find ourselves lost in the night, and realize how much we need them. Check out my poetry here: |

interesting. why can't there be light without shadows? if nothing is blocking the light, there are none, and the light can be seen? |

Everything casts a shadow in the light. So if there's no shadows, it's either complete darkness or nothing exists. That was the idea. |
