standing on a shadow's lace

Companion

if you don’t see me
I am behind the blades
of grass after summer rain
bathing trying to wash off
the dust that settles
and sticks to you as pain
my heart has long been tied
to land climbing salty rocks
in the deepest canyons
it is time I shed myself
of this ache I have had
and tears find a new companion
