where the wild flowers grow

Crossfade, her eyes blink.
I stare at her
squinting through dim lights that
are interfered with by small
flying
bugs..
Tails afire and they buzz
around my obsession
of being who we used to be.

I see her hand reach for her purse
almost enraged she touches up
her make up..
..I'd always said she didn't need it, not one drop
of her
was tainted.

Oh, darling..I say
my words sort of cut off quiet toward the ends..
Frayed, I dismounted an ideal life
between us..
Had I landed, I'd know
respectively, that it was the lighting
that drove you away..

Surely it
couldn't be that I
haven't kept you cool enough in
the dead heat of
my winter.
My soul bound to you like
a heart reminisces
on being who we used to be..
