~*~
On eerie nights
With fog so dreary,
Near rocky shores
Of deep Lake Erie,
Voices echo
Thru' dead of night,
With wailing pleas
Of sailors' plight.

Spectral beings
In swirling mists,
Rise from waters
Of dark abyss.
They search for loves
They left behind~
Unseeing eyes
That cannot find.

'Twas many years
Since mighty gale,
Rocked the boat
And ripped mainsail.
The vessel sank
To water's grave,
And with it took
The sailors brave.

Lamenting sounds,
Chill deep the bones,
Of those who hear
Their mournful moans.
'Twas long ago
In glory days,
Lost sailors sank
In Erie's waves.

On eerie nights,
With fog so dreary,
Near rocky shores
Of deep Lake Erie,
Voices echo
Thru' dead of night,
With wailing pleas
Of sailors' plight.
~*~

I like this, it's very descriptive. I live in Michigan.. I dunno it was cool to read of something near me. Lol.
I'm easily amused.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Linda, I too get touched by these stories so much, dearest friend, I hate to have to hear of families grieve over their lost ones at sea and I cried during the movie Titanic especially! (sigh) This is heartfelt, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

There is a tradition among fishing families that each mans' sweater be knitted with unique cabling for the purpose of identifcation

My grandfather was the 1st male in the family to actually have a grave.

(Ironically he passed away at my aunts house on Ocean Blvd)

These tales stir that part of my being.

inkedgoddess ~

Thank you! In actuality, I have written several "songs of the sea". I do believe that I shall turn this poem into yet another one!

Have a great day!

Laqe ~

Living near the Great Lakes, I'm sure you've heard of many such stories.

Noah ~

Stories of families losing loved ones to watery graves and never finding their bodies, hit me especially hard. How ironic that I had written poetry and songs about such things for years, only to one day have it reflected in my own reality. You may recall that my sister's son (I was his "second Mom" as he would say), along with 5 other boys, disappeared on Lake Ontario a few years ago and their bodies have never been found.

Love & Eternal Light,
Linda

Wranx ~

How ironic that your grandfather ended up being claimed by the "Ocean" as well.

Interesting note on the cable-knit sweaters of fishermen!
