I have stood before you all
naked here
and peeled my skin
back revealing underneath
confessing
to you all my sin.
Tell me that it's not enough,
I'll rip my veins
and flog with them--
I will tell you secrets then,
and proudly wave the flag of me
I am not serenity--
I'm not even second-best...
I am not the antichrist
nor am I the chosen one
I am not this thing you think
prancing clover over stone...
I take my hands and offer palms
saying, "don't you see it now?"
Watch the ribbons of the clouds
cross the lines in search of truth
licking my own blood in greed.

Just like you--
I'm just like YOU--
and my wounds are honest weep...
in the center there is calm
there we find the tune in key
dripping blood to holy grail
as if someone might ever look
down into a chalice kept
by the head of the Baptist
next to all the legend told
blinded by the glint of gold.
for the vessel of the keep
and the very life of me
does not beg for your applause--

something in me needs a cause
and finds it
in the death of me...
something in me seethes with greed--
evolutionary forge
death oh death
I can't conceive...
begging flesh of have some more
looking for the the bits of me
playing patterns on the glass
twist the tumbler and laugh
kaleidoscope
and bits of grass
splayed across the bottom screen.

I have stood before you all
naked in my peel of skin
red welt rise in center palm
as if in beg of "let me in..."
dripping blood of once
that was--
knowledge that ye know I sin
just by virtue of my flesh.

Something in me barters life
as something in me dies...

seasoned to a gourmet meal
of which I enjoyed
somethings arent what they seem

Just like you
I am JUST like you
For I too feel
the need of peel

But in so doing
I fear
I create

I create, I fear
A thing this is
and is not me

Yet leave it here
for all to see
just what it is
that lives within

That which no one
quite believes

Good lord woman
you have written

Ser... you know i know....

Who cast first the stone
to break the glass of me
as I,
on broken pieces offered
have slashed the places
too tender for normal bleed...

I asked not to be
but that I am
just like you
human

Not but blood and bone
flesh and will
tell me now

are those in your hands
stone

still?

If at first you don't succeed destroy all the evidence that you tried.

there is so much I want to say to this
I dont even know where to begin...

you do this better than anyone...
peel yourself
and you peel others

laying bare the nerves to be scrawled raw

and yes
I also know the feeling of
flagellating myself
far more thoroughly than anyone else could
do to me...
that does create the situation of
self-attacking yet very defensive personality

and as for yet again trying to open blind eyes.....
well...you can lay bare all the skin you want Karen...but some people will only see
that you are dripping blood on their rug
that is just how it is...

you are the wren's bone
delicate, fragile
but strong enough
to make the flight
possible

be above it....
look down at a bigger picture
I smile..because I know you have on some level
but when it continually leaps up to snag your wings
and drag you back down
it can get to you.....yes

ok....
this is in your Jeremiad class....
and you know what that does
to me
incredible you......
a hard hug for you
B

I've never thought of it in exactly that way...but I understand it perfectly.  You know where I am, right?  It was your day to watch me...

I wanted to say thank you for all of your generous comments. And? A friend e mailed me, asking what the title meant, and it actually means something only to me. When I was a kid, we would play "pretend" using the long blades of the St. Augustine grass as our $$--so it was just a personal reference to a wish for a less complicated time. A Halcyon days kinda thing.

But thanks all for reading. You are all such special people.
