My Heart in Disguise

The wall i built to protect my heart
from deceit has slowly crumbled now my
heart is exposed and accepting life
again.

i feel the joys of life and contentment
of humanity now and only now in this moment
of time do i understand that i was only in disguise in all past
years

all the resentments and attitudes i
portrayed were outside of my heart
many times i set crying to my self
in pain and
wondered

was it time to knock the wall down
and take life at face value and it's
grievances or
not

knowing this i still fought off those
who cared and shared many times
with me only to be dismissed when
i felt they were to close to my
heart

slowly with thoughts haunting my
heart of the hurt and confusion i
put in others hearts i realized the
time is now to take off my
disguise

knock down the wall and let my
love that's been dormant and hidden
all these years be seen and felt by
all

with my thoughts exposed and my
disguise taken off can you see
it in your heart to forgive and accept
me as i am and not as i have
been.

Glenn, we all have these two sides of ourselves
that we struggle to show the one we respect.

Been there, done that, still doing it...

I think we all wear disguises at first, even if we don't think so, so as to protect ourselves from more disappointment and hurt.

Now that the disguise is gone, it will be the real you that people will love! It is wonderful that you have opened up your heart and ready to live your life once more!

Glenn, there is so much of your heart showing in this one. I love to read poems that come from the writer's heart. They are always very special.
