she awakes
      crawling
   from nightmare's mouth
dripping
                a false birth
                   (tricked again)
shuddering -
             palms
        her blinking wounds
grinding visions out that strayed
          into waking

she stares across the room

     she has a canvas there
        no one understands
it draws her-
this blankness
she rubs her hands over it's
    frightening potential
        presses her fever
to it's clean cold

holds it to her
as she has for most of her life

she wants it to love her
  accept her
       completely
like a word on a page

but the emptiness is full
and cannot accept more

with burning eyes and a dark smile
she finds the buckets
that contain her
words
         all of her colors
she pours them
to make a bath

dips her fingers
   swirls the paint
       spinning sentences
rhyming rainbows and iron

she contemplates the spiral
adding tears
     then slowly
pushes her hands in
feels the rush up her arms
  the flood of thoughts
           her face reflecting
       in shiny oils
                  caught in paragraphs
she stands up
cupping her hands around
a poem
        and before it slides through
                her fingers
she annoints herself
pouring it over her head
            rubbing it into her hair
with desparate exultation
on her face
she steps into the story
sitting
covering her belly
                  breasts
she rubs the colors
into her skin
       her face
           she submerges
listens to her heartbeat
ears filled with her past voices
and absorbs all the pain
                   the wonder
                         of them
she rises
streaming what she could not hold
    a glistening palette
       of her history
stepping from the bath
silent
holy
slowly moving forward
unsure steps
getting used to burden
until stronger
gaining speed
         focus
paint trailing
like sunflares
she runs
opening
her arms
to fly
into
her canvas
a meteor
of a
person
trying to break
through
the thin
white
membrane
and leave her
mark
like
the
  truly
      born

well
damn

smile
ok....I can do this without
choking up

but you guys
are
the BEST
ok?

this was Karen's vision
she felt the need to do this...
and I told her
"you need to write that"
but she wouldn't
"I'll just rhyme and dime it"
sound familiar?

she wanted me to
so I did

my words..her vision..almost a duet
but I knew she would kill me had I called it a duet

I thank you all for responding to me
so nicely
it humbles me
I want to thank you those that read me
and I never get around to thanking

I feel inadequate in the responding department
but please know
I read way more than I reply
my time...is precious
unfortuantely
Pip comes 4th....smile

thank you all again
I love you Karen

I would have clobbered you had you called this a duet because it's NOT a duet. I just had this urge to do some, um, body art. You wrote every lovely word.

Now hush up and kiss me.

Thank you, bri...

To know someone so completely that you can express their very heart and soul in such beauty takes a very special being, and I won't quote every line here, but she is captured in every single line.  I applaud you Bri, this was a portrait of a favorite soul friend.  She has indeed a canvas no one understands, but perhaps you?

Let there be peace on earth,
