Outside my window grew a tree, ...that came to life each night, With shadowed fingers reaching out, ...to give me nightly fright, My parents told me not to worry, ...that the tree was just a tree, That was not true, because I knew, ...that the tree was after me, And so I lay awake each night, ...my covers tightly drawn, Above my head to hide myself, ...until first light of dawn, Sometimes I'd feel the tree's cold touch, ...as limbs were reaching out, To grab ahold of my right arm, ...and I'd let out a shout, Mom would come into my room, ...and pat me on the head, Then tell me I was safe and sound, ...no tree was near my bed, She would return to her own room, ...and leave me all alone, In my bed where I would lay, ...afraid and on my own, That was until that Friday night, ...when I had my nightly scare, I screamed in fear and mom came in, ...to find my bed was bare. If you've a child who fears the night, ...and whom a tree does scare, I hope you heed what you've just read, ...or he might not be there. Tim...I remember, not a tree, but a window, a very dark closet, and under the bed. Thankfully trees have always been my friends. |
