"I AM" challenge I am the essence of you, in the presence of me. I wonder if my dreams treasured in hold, shall see reality. I hear your voice calling within the storms that rage in my night. I see your shadow beckoning me to collide in pleasures delight. I want, I need, I desire the always of your decree. I am the essence of you, in the presence of me. I pretend in waters surround, you enter and freeze me to your press. I feel you always touching my mind, shaping, molding, I acquiesce. I touch your touch, wrapping myself within reflections flamed by candle light. I worry that this is but a dream, to be snuffed out each night. I cry the moment your whispers leave me weakened with no guarantee. I am the essence of you, in the presence of me. I understand your love for me is true and must trust in your word. I say what my heart desires in expressions to you only, heard. I dream of the day when words of love shall not be distanced any more. I try each morning to hold onto the memory of each breath shared before. I hope that the heavens above hear my nightly plea. I am the essence of you, in the presence of me. ~~*~~ and this one in no format I Am It is easy for me in moments when I am settled into myself to recall every little touch, every word from lips shared, every interpretation analyzed, taking me as far back as my later teenage years. I can reverse the films in my head just to enjoy the love I once held, or turn it into sadness of my moods by winding down to the people I have lost from my life. Each night is dark for me now, too dark for even shadows to follow me, those that once interrupted by haunting me into believing in more. Selfish me, always wanting more, like a child, throwing tantrums, all but the stamping of feet. I dislike aging only because there is so much of life left to share, and each day goes by too slow while in it yet tomorrow comes much too soon. There is always a poem in me, at times one too many, that interrupts the flow of the one before. Today is such a day as I take the time to look around me, the beauty just in existing being clouded by my visions tears. Today I don't wish to rhyme, I don't wish to reason. The answers are never forthcoming unless I look in the mirror and if need be put on those reading glasses to take a closer look. Those lines of worry have grown deeper, and those bite marks on my bottom lip are from the tensions I build inside myself trying to understand "the many moods of me". I am invisible to most, and like it that way for now. I listen, I read, I learn, yet still don't understand what it takes to be fulfilled anymore. All the cliches mean nothing to me and I shrug them off when heard. I weave my days into nights waiting to knot them off leaving me to start new. I ask myself, "How are you today" at the start of each morning and today I had no answer except..."I Am" *both perfect for the day's feel (one of my blue days) M "Love is not blind - It sees more and not less, but because it sees more, it is willing to see less." |

Maureen my sister poet: You ARE the wonder and winsome spirit of the endless write. Always a pleasure to read and share in the art of expression, an endless fountain of beauty. Please do post both of these. Excellent! TD |

Thank you Sue, but I am not so sure I want to take up space with the poem on its own. I figured I could post 2 for the price of one hugs M |

Maureen...Such beauty in your words, such honest emotional questioning. Both, very well done, my friend. |

I don't remember the challenge being so widely received before...perhaps it's because we've multiplied our poets...or that our poets have multiplied their talents, as you have... |

You are beautiful, even in blue. These two belong together--not quite a contrast, but more of an illumination, the way a glaze brings out nuance in colors. You are a lovely lady and poet, m. Thanks for sharing so much of your self (selves?) with us. 'tis a gift. |

Thankyou TD..you snuck in there and in between you and Martie and Karilea I was chasing a bat..or rather he was chasing me... Thank you all for your kind responses and Karilea..I think we all seem to be responding quickly which makes it seem like more..but I think we were all up for a challenge...I have been rather bored lately. hugs M |

Thanks Karen, as always I am touched by your honesty and friendship. hugs M Thanks Nan, sometimes when I think I am going to write with rhyme, it comes out straightforward and I have no choice...and other times I wish to just write free flowing and it won't stop rhyming. I have no control over me It is interesting though, how differently we are all addressing this challenge. *S M |

M~ You know, I read everything you post, I don't always reply b/c I am a bad, bad person....anyway, I digress.. I loved the first "I am" but OMG, the second one moved me...it made me want to call you...to spend the day with you....I don't know... It is truly insightful, and beautiful...thank you for sharing it and yourself.. Susan C. |

Thank you Susan, that's very kind of you. If you were nearby I might take you up on that...but since you are not I will settle with giving you a M |

Your essence is like none other Maureen~ I keep playing with my "I Am" poem. But I'm having a hard time of it, since there are so many colors to remain true to. Beautiful in blue you are... |
