So many dreams I've lost because of you

I'm not who I was before
An innocent child to adore
I've changed
I'm not the same
I am corrupted not even deserving of a name

I see what you have done to me
A beacon of light in my mind
I see what I do to others
And all the things I left behind,
Or passed by

I stare into the mirror
I look into those eyes
I shut the door and throw away the key
To this thing that used to be me
Never again to hide the light
That burns so bright inside

I put the past back into its time
Innocence once again returns
Only lost not forgotten
For now is the present
Where I and NOT you
Choose the path for
MY future

This is a very nice poem, it shows true recovery. It's always good to recongnize what's holding us down, and get past it.

IntoTheFlames - great write of this subject. I especially liked the ending knowing that one must live for themselve and not how others wish it to be. I only wish I could have learned that a long time ago...
