I watch the face of the moles Leaving the holes in the ground As they scurry off to their daily labors Sullen faces Hollow faces Pondering why Boredom awaits Dirty sidewalks Cracked pavement Honking horns As they emerge Coffee regular The way a New Yorker orders it Spills from the paper cup As the subway jostle them onward Expressionless faces Thinking of excuses to tell the bossman Only hoping to earn another greenback Knowing they have to do this again, another day |
