I wrote this after reading a story about
a young girl who was bullied at high school
yet the teachers turned a blind eye and
did nothing. The girl took the school to
court and won a landmark case, the first
of it's kind, to the tune of $78,000. I
suffered at the hands of bullies in primary
school and as we speak I feel so helpless
as my own daughter is being bullied at
school.I felt very passionate about
writing this poem.

You bravely took the stand
For so many far and wide
You had lived a private hell
But no longer could you hide

You were so determined
You didn't let them get away
It simply goes without saying
That every dog will have it's day

They lowered your self esteem
You cried yourself to sleep at night
But they could never break your spirit
And they would never win this fight

Your voice has now been heard
And we salute what you have done
We admire your strength and courage
And we're so glad you've found the sun

"Loneliness and the feeling
of being unwanted
is the most terrible poverty"

I am in motion
I am blue
Love is an ocean
I'm anchored in you

Awesome write. Being bullied is no fun, I think we've all been there, but sometimes it's just that bad.

Thanks for this, it's going in my library.

Hooray for her!!

When I was a child, my parents were very poor and often we went without things that other children had.  Because of that my brother and I got picked on a lot.  It hurts deeper than people know, and children can be so cruel sometimes.

We have to teach our children that words can and do hurt others.

...and as for your daughter...you tell her that the people that can't see her inner beauty aren't worthy of her time, or her tears.  I wish someone would've told me that when I was little...life surely would have been much easier.

Yet another powerful write Sue

Nice thoughts...I like to believe that there will be others around to help someone that is smaller or weaker when they are bullied...but as you say every dog will have their day...eventually a bigger bully will come along and take care of business...James

My son was bullied as a child because he taller and a little bigger and gentle. Being a single mom I had many doors slammed in my face. When he got to the 6th grade he really spouted up and he was strong, he played an instrument in school so they would tease. One day he had it, he picked up one of the bully's and pushed him up against a car and said these simple words "leave me alone."
That did the trick.Children and adults can very careless and hurtful with their words.
Good write.
Bon-Bon

Sue:  Very caring poem and I'm so sorry to hear your daughter is being bullied in school. I too, suffered at the hands of kids in the first few grades in school, because I spoke more French than English. I was always crying it seemed.  My folks weren't able to put a stop to it but finally told me, I needed to stick up for myself and really light in to those bullies. When I finally did, they were so shocked, they left me alone afterwards. I hated to get physical, but it did the job.

Sue, I'm sorry to hear about your daughter.Let her know that her inner beauty will always outshine those that are hateful and hurtful.May she always have the light and support to shine. With your guidance I'm sure she will.My son was bullied last year bad by an older kid, needless to say by the time it was over with all of my children were involved and got the bully thrown off the bus.I hope soon that she is able to escape this hurt.My thoughts and well wishes will be with you both.

Hi Sue, I am a firm believer that what goes around comes around. Those bothering your daughter will one day get theirs.
I'm sorry this is happening.

Prayers for Elysa ...
