Between the Lines

Stuck in this body
appendages numb,
head throbbing,
brain wishing it was elsewhere
dissecting the disjointed thoughts
analyzed daily.

Cut off from the real
with only a pillow's softness
to bend my body's will
and the whirring of the air
to chill the nakedness.

Feeling burned at the stake,
if only, a concession,
of compromise unheeded...
no more
no less
