She stands watching the hill sniffing the burning sage her fur ruffled by hot dry wind alone Shadows cast by night’s moon touching a strand of trees a song that is coyote born in dark Searching for shade or glade there is nowhere to hide waving water has been licked dry no rain [This message has been edited by Martie (07-12-2003 01:40 PM).] |

Coyotes are made for this, but that doesn't mean they don't feel it. You draw this picture so well -- I'd say paint, but paint is wet, and there's nothing wet here! On all levels, this is one excellent poem. Somehow you let us see that coyote from the inside as well as the outside. ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |

Martei - you write the feelings and thoughts of the coyote - you take us to see the angst and pain it feels - your poetry is just amazing - Paul |

Martie, what a beautiful poem...though it does make me feel sorry for the animals. And, Lady, I love the form, too. You do everything you write, perfectly. I hope that you don't mind me keeping it to study? Hugs Ethel |

hi.. i like this piece a lot. my minds eye sees a ruffled scragly coyote, but a glint of something special in its eyes. a certain amount of awareness that few animals (and even people) can posses. |

*smile* A great poem about an interesting animal....There are good reasons why broyher Coyote is identified with the trickster. I have started to see them in my town here in the east. They trail the wild turkeys which showed up two years ago. Some times hunters support good deeds. The Coyote is beginning to seem like my daughter's totem, more time though is needed. Thank you for sharing this. |
