The fork Tracing its lines and graceful shape I am struck by its simplicity and singleness of purpose That it is touted as a near necessity for the chunkiest of soups How its fundamental use is a milestone, hard won And its proper utilization marks ones’ degree of good manners And that Thoreau had but one The glint from the burnished surface brings to mind the way she would use it To alternately stab and stroke the air around her As if she were painting for me the point she was making about the meat or the sauce or my errant ways [This message has been edited by wranx (07-06-2003 12:21 PM).] |

DANG! this is a brilliant write, Ed, and I'm keeping it. And it's not going into the silverware drawer either. |

"The glint from the burnished surface brings to mind the way she would use it To alternately stab and stroke the air around her As if she were painting for me the point she was making about the meat or the sauce or my errant ways" Love it when you do this! Not sure what the challenge was Ed, but the poem rocked! All this...from a fork. And Thoreau only had one? No kidding? Better be careful, I might learn something... ![]() |

How its fundamental use is a milestone, hard won And its proper utilization marks ones’ degree of good manners It's all in the proper place setting~ not to mention, being careful with what we're holding so that we're not too quick to stab. ![]() Thank you Bevin, loved this wranx~ |

Interesting write about that ole fork. Now the knife is a handy little gem. When my son was a babe it put together a baby crib, was able to hang my curtains and a shoe makes a great hammer. See Ya Bon-Bon |

To alternately stab and stroke the air around her As if she were painting for me the point she was making about the meat or the sauce or my errant ways What a picture you've painted here... even the most mundane objects have magic when a poet notices them... excellent! *S* |

Nice turnover, oh wranxian one....I like the way you take a poem that's already good, and add a few fathoms to its depth with a simple closing line. ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |
