The sermons that inspired these two poems were a week apart and given by two different men. Yet today, I see how much the poems should be in tandem. “Born Again” sermon by Dr. Pryor Must I become as a mustard seed with all the properties of newness, potential, fruit? Must I go into myself as into a cocoon then await the wind of the Spirit to gain birth to gain wings as a butterfly legs of power as a bullfrog a song to sing as a nightingale? When will I know that I’m ready to go? ©June 15, 2003 “Get the Word OUT” sermon title by Adam Janes Here I am, Lord, use me lead me I will go as soon as I’m rested. Then I will go. Yes, Lord, I will rise up with wings, with swift feet, with guided thoughts true to Your will, Lord. Now, Lord? But, Lord, I am still weak, I am tired, I am not ready. How can I go, Now? and He answered... With Me. ©June 22, 2003 Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |
