Belfast

I powered up my PC to search the internet
for images of Belfast to settle a friendly bet
and whilst browsing now through Google for images to see
A certain spark of happiness ignited inside me
For four or five short years ago whilst using my new toy
the pictures then of Belfast were not one's to enjoy
flames and bombs and bloodshed hatred all around
cars on fire and splintered wood and glass accross the ground
Every picture seemed to have a dark and gloomy sky
the images that I saw then would make me want to cry
But trawling throught the search results of Googles web site stills
I see more smiling faces and blue skys above the hills
people out enjoying a new found confidence
others now seem to realise this is common sense
thought things are far from perfect and the unthinkables still done
Belfast now is buzzing with that thing we know as fun
So lets hope things move on swiftly and the men of war stand down
and make this little Belfast once again a great wee town.

Thank you, David, for sharing with us your little part of the world.  You know, when the USA went through their terror of 9-11, and the ensuing days, months and more of trying to understand how this could have happened, it gave so many of us an understanding, and brought to us a common ground with those countries who have lived with this kind of senselessness for so very long.

What really amazed me, and so many of our other members, was how this particular poets community held together.  Oh, yes, indeed, there was a lot of talk about the rights and wrongs of the world, and I don't know that anyone really changed anybody else's mind over anything, but we all agreed to disagree, if we had to, and agree that everyone had a right to say what they wanted to, and speak their minds.

I'm rambling.  This poem is wonderful, and I am glad that your bit of the world is seeing better days.  I just wanted you to know that you've come to a good place to share your poetry, and we're glad to have you.
