Grocery Store Sensations Pure, slightly confused, young Midwest eyes looked at the oddly shaped “green things” as I plucked and felt one or two of them myself. “What are they?” He inquired. “Good eating, if you like strange stuff,” couldn’t help but keep the tease, my gosh, hadn’t he had any exposure? “Are they ripe?” still, confused, as their bumpy dark green skin, I’m sure, put him off. So I leaned over, picked one up, put it cool and strange, in his right hand and put his left hand on my arm. “Squeeze my arm lightly,” and he did, as he felt the flesh move slightly, “now, squeeze that, just as easy,” and he did, then smiled. “Feels fleshy, sort of,” he grinned on his way to an education of good eats. “Just don’t swallow the skin.” He was still unsure as I left him behind to grow up in the vegetable aisle but looking back I watched him bag one or two. |

I loved the write, too, but I don't know what they are either. I think I can see what you're talking about, but I've never tried one. Is it fruit or vegetable? Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |

Well, Virginia, because it's like so many other edibles that some call fruit and some call vegetable, I actually had to refer to Webster.... and in all sincerity, I cannot give you it's literal definition because I might ...but reading on, Webster defines it as a fruit. Does that help? |
