Family I woke last night in the early hours got up and crossed the room To the window where the lights of stars danced brightly round the room A cold frost draped the ground outside the hedges and the trees No winter coat to hide inside away from the biting breeze. A long way off a lone dog barked soon joined by several others Making sure their ground was marked from all including brothers. I gently walked accross the floor trying hard no-one to wake and once outside my bedroom door a deeper breath I'd take At times like this when all alone but with family all around I watch them sleeping one by one contented safe and sound. My daughters first, her angels face hair brushed like golden thread her skin as smooth as silken lace her lips a soft pale red. My son is next, he's grown so much with eyes so big and brown His skin is dark still soft to touch A thinker not a clown. So back to bed beside my wife the one I love so dear. The simple truth she is my life I need her always near. Now the cold outside could thunder through and wrap itself round me, for I'd be warm and that is true For I've my family |
