His plan, a thought of table round of killing deeds in scything blow. And from the courtly jester found the treachery of they, his foes. She pled and bled her heart's renown To promise him, though sore remorse Her father, King, and gilded crown She'd remain true on his own course For in the night a courier would slip the gate to waiting boat. And from the lips this harbinger would plot their deaths upon the moat. A stranger came into their midst Swearing alliance with one shield And treated all with Love's great kiss Not one would guess he might repeal As gold did bring the cloak of greed and jewels did fall into those hands. A king was told, of her, his seed her wanted lips, another's plans. For in King's truth, he seemed God-sent This messenger appeared so kind But truth be known he was hell-bent, To destroy two realms with one mind. Unknown to them, from lofty perch three archers took a deadly bead. The quarry found in frantic search now slain before the plotted deed. The fairer maid she heard heart’s cry Though silence filled her own cold room And darkness came to her green eyes With grief grasping chill in the gloom While glancing blow upon the shield of what was aimed for treachery. A cry to heed, ‘twas then revealed a king lay wounded mortally. And who knows fear of one’s dead soul For treason’s call shan’t gain love’s heart Two realms now lost, no more the goal While plans of men swift fall apart |
