There are only two houses there. I (the mother) lives in the eastern side one with my three young children. A young couple with a 1 year old girl just moved in this evening. About 10pm, i heard that the child was crying and she kept crying till 10:30Pm. I do not know them. But all children's crying touches my heart. Shall I knock their door to give my care? how a philosophy of self-interest shall play here? |

I wouldn't. They'd probably think you're being nosey. Unless you think the kid is in danger or something to that effect, I'd just let it be. Kids scream, that's their hobby I think. “Well all the apostles, they’re sittin’ on the swings, sayin’ I’d sell off my savior for a set of new rings.” |

I don't think I would go over. But? if the kid sounds hurt, and all moms know that kind of cry, then I would either go over or call the police, or both. They just moved in, chances are the kid was tired...and with the parents unpacking he/she probably wasn't getting enough attention so he/she cried him/herself to sleep. |

I think you are judging too hastily Brad. Just because she wonders whether she should show her care or not, doesn't mean she cares more about that than the child that she hears crying. |

not to knock because it is dark It is a woman with three young children it is sleeping time ( the crying will not bother her sleeping) To knock because A young couple (inexperienced parents) A young child cannot talk yet A child is crying which bothers her heart. they just moved in this evening.(have they had dinner yet? have they unpacked their cooking thing yet?) all stores are closed |

I've got young kids. Crying 30 minutes is possible, and not out of the ordinary. I think shrieks and unabating screams might be different, and warrant some investigation. You could always knock and ask, apologetically, if there's anything you could do to help their family. At the very least, it might assure you that there's no real abuse. You have to play this one by ear. Self-interest and concern for others are both active in your thoughts and decisions. Pray and ask for guidance. You'll know what to do. Stephen |
