My common sense says the boy will die,
just as one who willingly forgoes, for his religion, an operation for a fatal disease .

The question is at what point, if any,
does a government have the right to intervene?

i would say 'never' at first-impulse.  to support this, i am not sure i am quite prepared.  take it where you will, and i will tag along.  i just instinctively feel the boy has the right to go through with it.  it is a religious issue, and a right-to life (death) issue, following to who-knows-where forever after...
