Avenues of larches Acid green against the sky, Dip their graceful branches As the breeze goes softly by. It whispers to the treetops, So faintly does it sigh, Listeners to the tune succumb To its gentle lullaby. It sings of distant places, Of forests wild and high, Of mountains streams and valleys Where dryads creep and hide. Mourning at the winds refrain The larches seek to nullify The lure of the sirens song Heard in the zephyrs cry. And though anchored in the parkland They bend their boughs and try To find solace in the grasses Where they must live and die. |
