There is a stair spiraling--
there are no rail assurances
hugging walls wide angle lens
counting brick that line the halls
rust and odd placed vertigris
make the mortar interesting
as does the steps of differing
levels
brings you to your knees
taunting me, "go back..."

There's shadow long in flaming cup
mocking in the angles played
smoke gray paint of silhouette
threatening the tower'd bid
for power of the steep stair begs
to give an ankle twist reprieve.

Hermit, knows the ways of dark.
He knows just when to pause;
enough to see the flickering
of lantern winking in the smog
as fog creeped in from river bank
blending with the ash of soot.
Hermit knows just when to wait--
he knows the placement of the foot
upon the marble slick with wet
and just a look beneath eyebrows
is warning to beware--I watch.

There are times I almost crawl
handholds where my feet will fall
and pull myself in willfullness
to see what I have not seen yet
even when it's more the same--
another brick--another day--
it beats just standing still,
in bones--
of those who tried
and just gave up...

there's shadow long in flaming cup--
the Hermit burns a steady guide.
A beacon chars his hands for me
and holds for me, the north star home.

He knows just when to pause.

Yes...it definitely beats just standing still.
This is excellent, Karen.
I read, I listened, and I heard the voice behind the verse.
Hugs to you, friend.

There is not enough room to put my favorites without repeating this poem - Lady, so this is how it is done.  Okay so now do you give lessons?     Oh and for you my friend a heart hug.

excellent Karen.

I could feel your words and the intensity.
And I know how hard it is to climb those stairs or crawl down a hall, as well as the denial and phobias that filland or drain one.

I sometimes wish I had someone at my back pushing, then I wouldn't have any excuse to fill my days.

*this would be a great one for reflections

a hug for you ((Karen))

Karen, your words once again give me chills as I have been there....I am there...gotta keep on keepin' on...even when the light seems so far away. Bless you for your power  with words. Chris

Karen, my friend, you just don't know how much I am relating to this right now. Sometimes it would be so much easier for me to go into isolation until all the turmoils of life would settle down.

Heart Hugs to you, friend

(Psst.....I think I would really go into the isolation thing if I could take my Love and my little Scooter doggy with me.    LOL)

Karen - where do you find the words like these. You're awesome, just awesome. Must be from inside, deep inside a heart sensitive...

And I still quest for light at the end of rabbit-hole, to find what lies beyond.

Perhaps, to find the other side of this mirror.

Good witchy things, here

Dunno where this one came from, was just doing one those straight to keys exercizes and wanted to write about a journey and this is what came about...

Based on the archetype of The Hermit, as pictured in the Rider-Waite tarot, major arcana, #9--

sheesh. Sometimes I give myself the creeps.

Thanks for reading!

I doubt seriously you can look at this and truly see how brilliant it is....
not just in imagery and metaphor and personification, not just in its aching emote and angsty conflict...but just in the sheer depth of expression and also the fact that in your reply you say it "just came to you" from looking at a pic on a card...
that in itself proves what Ive said many times...you absorb poetry....with every breath, you are poetry.

Ocean wrapped around the sun
Sky fell down & pulled us in
stole away my oxygen
left me breathless in the blue
left me breathless there with you.

in bones--
of those who tried
and just gave up...

they struck..patience I must have patience

Well, since some of you have recognized him, I will confess that this was also based on conversations with a certain favorite poet of mine here at Pip (sorry Ed, I was tryin' to spare ya the embarrassment) So for those of you who suspected that wranx also played a part in the inspiration of this, you are indeed correct. So I would be remiss if I didn't thank my gentle yeti friend, not just for the inspiration, but for his compassion, patience and wisdom. So thank you Ed. You HAVE held the lantern for me many a bad night, and I am grateful.

and Raph? grin, there's nothing else to do but go on, yanno? Standing still bores me!
