~*~ Betty had a potty mouth, She spewed "F" words every day, Offending folks with profanity, Heeding not what they did say. She walked up to her pastor, And let the bad words fly, She laughed herself silly As his eyes grew big as pies! One day she shocked her teacher With her vocabulary rare, Miss Perkins flipped her curly wig And it was bare under there! The doctor told the little girl, "Stick your tongue out, and say 'Ah'," But instead she spit out expletives And he dropped his gaping jaw! Her Dad was sad, then grew mad, And finally hit the roof, With soap he washed her mouth out Because she was uncouth. The kids all thought that Betty, Was neat and kinda cool, And she grew in popularity, As she swore all through the school! Her Mom was such a worrywart, And knew not what to do, She only hoped this stage would pass As her darling daughter grew! But granny was so proud of her Betty brightened up her days, By spouting words so colorful, She painted away life's grays! ~*~ [This message has been edited by Earth Angel (04-26-2003 06:46 PM).] |

Hah... this is very cute, Earth Angel... I wasn't prepared for the lack of resolution in the ending, but it gave me a chuckle nonetheless... I would have it no other way. Left me expecting an ending based on changing the girl but instead, just a shift in the point of view... I know kids like this. It's kind of sad how people are proud to be so vulgar, but I suppose gradually vulgar language will just become mainstream... which is perhaps why the grandmother takes so much pleasure in it? Because she might not even be familiar with this new bad language, and it's just neat to her... heh... wish I had a grandma like that. Very cool write... thanks for the smiles. (big hugggssssss) Oh Linda, this reminded me so much of that hilarious classic 1983 movie, "A Christmas Story", when back then language was obviously not accepted by society like it is now and the boy in the movie said what was supposed to be the *F* word and he really said "Fudddgggeeee" and when his mom called the neighbor's mom who her son said taught him that word the neighbor screamed in horror and the mom washed his mouth with soap! LOL! (giggles in delight) Seriously though, I don't like profanity and like to come clean in what I say and write and it is sad to see the youth of this generation use it far more than ever! This is so well-said, yay, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton |

LP ~ I enjoyed your reply! I thought I'd surprise the reader by not having the expected outcome of Betty learning her lesson and becoming a good little girl! Thank you for your feedback! Love & Laughter, EA |

LOL! Colorful language can be in the mouth of the bespeaker Out of some mouths it is offensive and from others it can be hilarious. It's all in the timing and presentation...like everything else! Cute poem, miss |

Oh I loved this and I roared laughing at the end with the granny. ...Her Dad was sad, then grew mad, And finally hit the roof, With soap he washed her mouth out Because she was uncouth... Yikes, I had forgotten all about this practice. My mother used to wash my brother's mouth out with soap when he was a kid. Not me though, I was a good girl! Now, I'm the brat ... A terrific poem with tons of imagination. hehe ... Hugs, Marti Few are those who see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts. A.Einstein |

Marti ~ My brother got his mouth washed out with soap too! --but I never did, because I was a sweet, innocent, little girl who never, never, never said, or did, anything naughty! (uncrossing fingers now)... Night, Night! Linda |
