A thief in the night

In my dream she awakens me from a deep sleep
drowsiness screams at me telling my mind to return to its slumber
yet her faint voice tells me to keep my eyes open
I long for her so I struggle with the coma that calls me to its oblivion

Sleep whispers and wraps me tight in its magical might
but her words break away all the nocturnal spells
she asks me to talk with her for a while
to keep our hearts true desires out of sight

Yet in my stupor I disregard
my enchanted infatuation makes me say her name
fingers press against my lips and I am ask if I have become insane
a dreamy smile curves around her fingertips

As I rise from my dream and yell to the world
my true intentions no longer a secret lovers hidden agenda
but a man in love who can be very tender
with eyes wide open and sleep dispersed

I find that she has left before the coming of the sunrise
snuck away a thief with my heart held tight
a note that says we just might
until then good night
