Thankfully, a reader pointed this out me.  I had actually thought about this when I titled this
poem because all angels are spectacular (never
average) as they are sent by God. But the person for whom I wrote this poem tells me he is just
an average guy.  You see, he is not.  So, it is
a little thing between us about this word "average".
That is why I used it here.  He gives me so much.
I wanted to give him something back...something
special between the two of us.

An Average Angel
for Eric

An average man appeared unexpectedly,
Giving of his to time to walk with me-
Offering his attentions altruistically.
Wonder what he sees in me?

I search for motives in my mind.
Yet, in defeat, I cannot find
One reason for an offering this kind.
Sent to break a chain that bind?

He assures me his intentions are true,
"I only want what is best for you."
And to the end, he sees me through.
Here to help me start anew?

Last eve, it was revealed so beautifully.
This average man is more than eyes can see.
A prayer answered, an angel God sent to me.
Now I question not what he sees in me.

Patricia...Angels come sometimes, I have one now who has made me feel most beautiful, and yet I feel just ordinary. Enjoyed your poem very much!
