Hoppy Rabbit asked his Mom, (the Easter Bunny) “why can’t I come with you?” To help hide eggs this Easter morn, that’s what I’d like to do.” His mom replied, “There’s too much work, my son you’re just too wee, So you stay home and mind the hutch, next year perhaps, we’ll see.” So the Easter Bunny left her hutch, poor Hoppy stayed behind, Her basket filled with colored eggs, for children soon to find. Hoppy was not happy, in fact he began to pout, “You would think by age fourteen, you’d be old enough to help out.” Soon Hoppy cried, “To heck with this, I’m helping out this year.” He found a basket and some eggs, and said, “I’m outta here!” So Hoppy left the rabbit hutch, hopping down the bunny trail, As he sang in jubilation, “Here comes Peter Cottontail.” Now Hoppy knew he was not Peter, but he knew no Hoppy song, So he sang of cousin Peter, as he hop, hop, hopped along. Soon Hoppy spied up far ahead, sitting there beside the road, A wrinkled and strange amphibian, an old green horny toad. Hoppy stopped to say hello, and to ask for some assistance, “Mr. Toad, it seems I’m lost, could you help me out per chance? You see I’m late, I’ve eggs to hide, I am the Easter bunny.” The Toad just laughed, “you silly fool, you are way too funny.” Hoppy was not Hippy, ( er make that was not Happy) by the toad’s reply, But the toad kept laughing, harder yet, ‘til he began to cry, “I am sorry my young friend, but I just can’t help it dagnabbit, You see I’ve never seen a frog, who thinks that he’s a rabbit.” Now Hoppy stopped dead in his tracks, his hopping it had stopped, He was in a state of shock, even his basket he had dropped. Just then came hopping around the bend, his Easter bunny mother, She saw her son there in the road, she thought, “Oh no, oh brother.” “Momma dear, am I a frog, and not a bunny dear?” “Yes it’s true, my darling Hoppy, it is true I fear. You see you are adopted, we found as a baby, an itty bitty tadpole, But to raise you as a bunny, it was my fondest goal.” “I love you more than life itself, my darling Hoppy baby, Do you think you can forgive, a hope for us maybe? Hoppy said, “You know I’ve thought, perhaps that I was different, I wondered if some hares were smelly, I had this fishy scent.” “But I don’t care, I love you more than if I was a hare, I least I know why I am slimy, without any bunny hair, Let’s hop on home as mother and son, you’ll have to show me the way, So ends my tail (er tale) of Hoppy Frog/Rabbit, this glorious Easter Day. Oh Tim you saved the day! The kids get here in about two hours and I have been too busy cooking to even begin to think of a poem (which they expect around here), so hope you don't mind I will "borrow" yours and say, "Uncle Tim" wrote this for Easter LOL. Hoppy Easter. [This message has been edited by Mysteria (04-20-2003 03:16 PM).] |
