I used to climb the narrow stairs
up to your door;
we'd sit and talk,
until there were no words to say;
you'd always share your tea.

We used to climb the narrow stairs
up to your mind;
we'd walk in frightened circles
until we had to lay our tired bodies
down on sympathy.

I could read this many times, and find more in it each reading.  Nicely done.  KJ

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

oo, this is almost too scary to talk about. How vulnerable we all are. I love this whole poem, Icebox, and it's a keeper for me.

Ice..was that green tea or specially imported? (chuckling)

Nicely done..as usual and with a few words you capture moments of intimate understanding.... enjoyed

I like the word play here, tea and sympathy, eh? And yes, I always immediately go for the metaphor of stair climbing and upper rooms to mean a purer reality.

Egads, I wanna write like you.

There's sharing and there's caring....and there's something without a name, that is beyond both. Thanks for giving us a look at it.
