I descended into a personal Hell,
so opaque to others.
They reached into the fire;
trembling hands,
but brave.
Desperate tears could not douse the flames.

There I dwelt.
A soul in utter darkness.
The deep coma of the mentally ill.
An all consuming to desire to kill
this mind and body, so betrayed by fate.

Behind the walls
of my personal chamber of torture,
I heard the cries of those who loved me.
Just loud enough to hear
and heed.
Slowly, they pulled me back.

I came blinking into the light
Old illusions evaporated
by scorching rays of Real Life.
Naivity shredded.
Now the hopeful realist.
The past understood for the education it was.
The future accepted as limitless,
unbound.
