Picture by Josephine Wall * * * * Through your words we became So very close to you The world was your oyster There was nothing you couldn't do You sang of rainy days and Mondays And how they made you feel so down Your words painted a perfect picture And we could almost see you frown From the top of the world Your star was shining bright But when your illness took hold You began to lose your guiding light We'd only just begun To enjoy your perfect harmony Words and music so uplifting How you'd set our spirits free Too soon your life was taken But your memory still lives on We still hear an angel singing Out of each and every song * * * * I've always been a big fan of the Carpenters and their music and the other day at work "Close To You" came on the radio and I was inspired to write this poem. I am in motion |

Sue, I too was a great fan of Karen Carpenter's music. She truly did have the voice of an angel and now she sings among them! I enjoyed this sad, yet nostalgically pleasing write. Warm hugs, EA |

Oh how I loved the music of Karen and Richard Carpenter! I think the one QjQ is referring to is "Merry Christmas Darling"..I could be wrong.. If so I stand corrected. Beautiful write Sue. ~Hugs, Nancy~ ~Somewhere in my heart I'm always |

It's hard to believe she's been gone since 1983. They were such a favorite of mine. To this day, their Christmas CD remains one of my favorites. And of course, "We've Only Just Begun." Fantastic song. Thanks for the memories Sue. And love the new picture. You look 10 years younger!!! Hugs, Marti |

I loved your dedication to her, and I continue to sing her song, "On Top Of The World" all the darn time. It won't go away actually, and really that is not such a bad thing. |

I am so glad that so many of my fellow poets enjoyed the Carpenters as much as I. Their music is timeless and there will never be another Carpenters. I'm glad you enjoyed my new picture which was taken on Christmas Day 2002. Take care........Sue I am in motion |

Sue, what a great picture of you! You have a wonderful smile. This was so great! Karen Carpenter was an amazing artist. Her music really takes me back to my Junior High, and High School years. It’s funny how when I was a young rascal, I didn’t really think all that much of “The Carpenter’s.” Plus, if I would have admitted that one of their songs was cool, my retarded friends (which of course, doesn’t say much for who I was...lol) would have, never let me forget it. But as I got older, (and less retarded!) I really started appreciating their music to the point where now, I really get a special kind of feeling when I hear some of my favorite songs of hers. It’s tragic how her life ended. She must have suffered so much. Ahhh, “We’ve Only Just Begun.” What more can you say? What a classic. Karen was a true icon, of popular music. And all I can say is... Karen, if you can read our words, or hear our thoughts? That whenever you sang, it always made us all feel... Close to you... Thanks Sue, Richy [This message has been edited by Richy (06-07-2003 03:56 AM).] |

She was and still is one of my favorites, too. My craft business is called "Rainy Days'N Mondays" because they would get me down if it wasn't for doing crafts on those days. A wonderful tribute, Sue. M * oh and I just noticed your new picture...beautiful. [This message has been edited by nakdthoughts (06-07-2003 06:32 AM).] |

A beautiful tribute to a beautiful artist. Her voice was like no other. Touching, wonderful words. I still sing her songs in my head constantly, she always seemed to have a way to express every emotion in her songs, and her voice was so beautiful. Isn't it true that the most beautiful souls are always the most tormented? |

(big hugggsssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, I also love the Carpenters music so very much! (sigh) I wasn't born during the time they were popular from the late 60's through the 70's but my mom really loved them when she was a little girl growing up and she shared her CDS with me and I have grown to love them so much too! "We've Only Just Begun", "Ticket To Ride" and "Yesterday Once More" are my all-time favorites from them! (kiss on cheek) This is a beautiful tribute, sweet friend, she'll always be at the "top of the world" singing, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sue, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton Underneath your clothes, there's an endless story |

I am truly humbled and so overwhelmed at all the responses and I thank you all so very much. Marti - I forgot to thank you earlier for the beautiful picture of Karen, how we all would like to remember her. Richy - I can relate to what you said because it was only in the later years that I have really appreciated the Carpenter's music. They certainly weren't 'trendy' either when I was growing up but I still loved them. I vividly remember standing in the doorway of my father's garage when I was about twelve, listening to Rainy Days & Mondays. Take care.........Sue I am in motion |

Sue: I have always loved the Carpenter's music and have all of their tapes, which I often play. I still feel bad that Karen is gone and it was so tragic! This is a wonderful tribute and thanks for sharing! Love Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |
