What If…

The ship’s bow was aimed at far bay ahead;
The soft falling rain and cool ocean breeze
Kept all below -- but I, yearning instead
On open deck sought rare solitude seize.

There in reflection by railing she stood;
In dreams far beyond the gray falling mist.
A woman my heart take within it would;
A vision that feelings could not resist.

What thoughts and emotions you hide within;
What secrets with inconstant wind do you share?
What passions you keep, my chance-fated kin,
Bonded in solitude that we both wear?

I know not what door is tempting your heart;
What key to the future in my grasp I hold.
-- Is our Fate that we forever part --
Or are You the One my stars have foretold?

The bay is now near; the sight of docked ships;
The sound of the horn will soon free the chain.
But yet I move not, and my sealed, silent lips
Imprison all words to my thoughts -- again.

This but a transient dream of my heart;
She dissolves in crowd; slow fades out her face.
My voyage to unknown follows its part
-- Indifferent time will her image erase.

All the unspoken words; the notions banned;
Our ship through unchartered waters we aim.
The infinite lives we hold in our hand;
Still -- at day's end -- but a single path claim.

I liked this.

My thought after reading this is that we have to live each day at a time, and not worry about the "what ifs". There are just too many. I have too many myself. Oh, if only I had... But all I can do is live today, asking myself "if I do this, what affect will it have on the rest of my life?"

Sorry if I rambled on too much...

Thank you.

And, no, you have not rambled.

But, the "What if"...is not really as much of a 'worry', as it is just a simple reflection on a snapshot in time, going back many years now.

That particular incident really stuck in my head, for some reason.

You capture a moment very well with this. The soft rhythm kept my interest, and as long poems go, that is difficult to do. You have enchanted me. I wonder if you could repost this in Opoen 27 since it didn't get that many responses here.

Just me looking for buried treasure. This one shines through the haze.

You could hurt me with your bare hands. You could hurt me using the sharp edge of what you say. JEWEL
