On Being Redefined
By Larry Chadwick

Rhyme has seemingly gone silent,
It appears to have departed with you.
Images have somehow turned dim,
Out of respect I suppose for your parting.

Please do not think that all has faded away,
That life for me ended at your departure.
Rather my focus has been adjusted,
Altered by the new path your loss created.

Rhyme may be silent but thoughts have not ceased,
Just as images have dimmed but not disappeared.
There has developed a new tint to all that I now see,
And all images are now observed from a different perspective.

Intriguing how the parting of one who teaches
Creates a broader process of learning.
I am not without pictures nor am I without words,
But your parting has redefined how they are used.

It is impossible to resent the gift with which you gifted me,
Though I would gladly have deferred the maturity this has brought.
Yet now that I am here I will not turn back,
For this path of new perspectives seems lit entirely by you.

May 30, 2003

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Amazing, how life changes us...and some of us are never as strong as we need to be to adjust with the change of flow.  But you are, and you have been the better for it.

==================================

I'm smiling cross the miles at you after reading this bittersweet heart-light write.
After such loss there comes a process, different stages of first mourning, then acceptance, then the healing can begin, its a journey that will take us farther on if we allow it. In the last year I've watched you, thru you poetry,-- surpass each level of healing with grace, dignity & class and it has been both touching and an enlightening example of courage and humility. But more so, it has been a loving testament to Ginger and I hope you are as proud of yourself as I know she is of you...and as we all are.
Thats what I read in this poem...healing and acceptance, and an understanding of things not yet seen, of roads not yet traveled, with the wisdom of where you've already walked now becomes the wind at your back.

Wanna know what I call that?
Butterfly Breezes

Im still imagining your voice ...
can see the sparkle in your eyes.
I cant explain your power over me
Its understated understood & beautiful.

(big hugggsssssssss) Oh Larry, this is so beautifully said, dearest friend, I can tell you are hurting still but know always that your Ginger and your father will always love you and guide you along the way with their light; they don't want you to be redefined, rather they want you to be original, that is, be that same person you have always been and only now hold true their love will never disappear! (wipes tears) God Bless You, sweet friend, you are a very special friend to all of us, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Larry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

It's a painful thing too.

*hearthugs* my dear friend,

from one in the process of redefintion,

(but? the second somebody finds a slot for me, damned if I'm not kicking down the walls of definition again. Contrary thing, I am. )

Love to you, Larry.

Hello Larry

How very proud your daughter Ginger would be of her father.  Your words were written beautifully from deep inside your heart and I could relate so well to how you must have been feeling when you wrote this.  It is so nice to see you again my friend.

Take care.......Sue

I read this first, shortly after you posted it Larry and I've read it several times since.  For different reasons and to a lesser degree perhaps, I understand the redefinition.
For some reason, when I first read this, I remembered a poem you wrote way back, where I think you portrayed me as a drunk pilot of some shady airline.     Don't know why, just thought I'd tell ya.

Duncan,
Oh sure use guilt to achieve the apology! Dunc I know you are a good and sensitive guy. Sorry about the misportrayal. Odd how time changes things. Thank you for your friendship inspite of my bungling. Peace and good will I hope will always be yours.

A great perspective on living and learning...

Incredible. She lives on through your poetry!

I loved this, Larry. Keep living, and writing, and learning... And someday love will bring you back together again.

E_C,
You are so very gracious and kind. Thank you. It was a year ago May 18 that my daughter, Ginger died. And ten weeks later I buried my father. God will reunite us someday. And thank you very much.

Martie,
Your courage and kindness has indeed inspired me. Thank you for your generosity.

Karilea,
Without your love and support I could never have survived this past year. It is likely impossible for me to convey how much you truly mean to me. Thank you sweet lady from the bottom of my mending heart.

Dunc,
Well now, you may still be an inspiration to me yet!

Dunc & Karilea,
All right you two you should behave in these here blue walls! (I love being entertained)
