(This is one of my earliest poems I wrote, which I never posted before as it is very personal to me as I first made release from my afflicted heart)

Lawn Gnomes
By: Noah Eaton
3/7/00
(Revised 5/30/03)

Greetings from the postman
"The spirits are all round you,
Harbor them,
Enamor them!"
I hear you cry in your sleep
Wishing you could see me closer
We have no choice
This time must come...

And I cry cause everyone I see is smiling
Steadfast lawn gnomes that never even have to breathe
That I can never be...
...Join their tea parties...

Please, oh please, oh please, oh please, hear me
Your daughters getting older
The days are getting longer
Please, oh please, oh please, oh please, hear me
These canonical hours are shortening...
...Don't take them away from me...

It's been a good year
For in-voice and postage stamps
Respond to me
Reach to me
I forgive my neighbors
In this ghost-town vaudeville
As the red whales swallow them up
And I don't even feel the apathy...

And I watch the summers and winters waste away
And the mountains and glaciers resupinate
And the doors widen...
...Locked from the inside...

Please, oh please, oh please, oh please, hear me
Your daughters getting older
The days are getting longer
Please, oh please, oh please, oh please, hear me
These canonical hours are shortening...
...Don't take them away from me...
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
I guess I should be thankful
Shouldn't be unselfish
When there's something there
That I simply can't see
The world feels like Martha's Vineyard
Chardonnay at nine-thirty
Chapeaus and punch bowls
Umbrellas and pink flamingos
Tiger lilies and crape myrtles
Apartheid and communion
And the caterer's eyes are always invisible
Beyond the boutique...

Please, oh please, oh please, oh please, hear me
We're all getting older
These indian summers are growing longer
Please, oh please, oh please, oh please, hear me
We're less than strangers...
...The vines on these stone walls are bleeding...

Underneath your clothes, there's an endless story

***Shakira***

A most talented write from a most sensitive

Well, I guess you've had the passionate poetic drive from the beginning Noah.

You made to write this way so thanks for letting it out of your heart.

I'm delighted that you felt comfortable enough with us as friends to offer this one up for viewing. It's an exquisite bleed of heart, the epitome of the power of growing pains.
hugs to you, dearest Noah

Good job! My favorite lines are "and I don't even feel the apathy..."

and

"and the doors widen...
...Locked from the inside..."

WoW! This is so strong. Heavy and so very poigant in thick emotion. It felt like the words were pouring from the page into my mind, and it was amazing. ~DW~
