This poem is almost to personal to share. I hope it touches your heart.

-------

If only I knew
It was the last time I’d see you,
I would have thanked you
For sharing my tears
And being a friend
Through all the years

If only I knew
It was the last time I’d hear you
I would have treasured
Each word like gold
So when you were gone
I’d have something to hold

If only I knew
It was the last time to thank you
I would have meant it
With all of my heart
Hoping to bless you
Before we were split apart

If only I knew…
But I didn’t have the chance to—
So instead of looking
Back in time with sorrow,
I will live each day
Like there’s no tomorrow.

You may have thought that this poem was too personal to share, but I for one, am pleased that you did.

I am sorry for the loss of your love, but you have such an upbeat and positive outlook that you cannot but help your readers who are suffering a similar loss.

This was a well-written poem with wonderful messages inherent in it. I really enjoyed it and thank you for sharing it with your readers.

Healing hugs,
EA

Ben, this is exactly what we all need to do - and what the press of a day and too little time leave us...but yes, if you can?  Treat each day as if it were your last one, and celebrate Christmas in your heart with every breath!

Benjamin, I could feel this one very much. I am so glad that you posted it. I know that it must have been very hard for you to write. There was so much love and care in it, and made me think, also.

This is the only thing we can do, though....

If only I knew…
But I didn’t have the chance to—
So instead of looking
Back in time with sorrow,
I will live each day
Like there’s no tomorrow.

Heart hugs to you, friend

Thank you, Marge, your poem is as beautiful as it is sad...

You have shared a piece of your heart...and I understand the pain of love leaving before so many things were shared and spoken.  My best to you!

El_Camp,
Nice write .... reminds me very much of my "With A Little Kiss" I know your pain man, nothing to do but live through some tomorrows & wait for the pain to throb in a more dull way.

If only I could count all of the ifs,  then
I would have been right on track...  There
are far too many of them to count,  but
they are slowing down....

I relate well to this poem,  and it is very
beautiful.  Thank you for sharing it.

I suppose this is why some wise person said live everyday like it could be your last...I had a girlfriend that left me without saying goodbye...did she know that was the last time we would spend together...I don't know because I haven't been able to speak with her for many months now...maybe it was good she didn't tell me goodbye because she told me another time and I ended up begging her to stay...and she did for awhile...James

James,
I had the exact same thing happen, Except mine gave me no previous warning. To make matters worse, she was fighting cancer. To this day, I don't know if she is even alive ... sigh. I wrote "A Little Kiss", "A Million Prayers" & "On Moonlit Hill" for her. In a perfect world, she would read them one day.

... There is no normal life Wyatt, just life ... so live!
