I took the moves
as offered me
and hopped
the cross
of Good St. George--
a sacrifice
of men in crown
as I leapt at opportune,
collecting hats
of souvenir
never dreaming
that I was
the dragon they all feared.

I took the moves
as offered me
(for isn't that
part of the game?)
kings are lost
by strategy
the middle falls
and corners stand
too tall to boast a glee--
with my head held proudfully;
I made it to the other side.

"King ME!"
I awaited crown--
curtsey on the corner dark
of empty parliament
I dreamt--
nodding, my pretend--
my chin dropping to my chest
waiting for the goldenring
wishing that I had not hopped
across the board so fast...

Turn me over--
all brand new,
I can take the moves...
(n fact, I had invented them)
But let me bend my neck to you
and grant concession's whispering,
eyes clamped tight
of wishing twice:

"King me, my love--King me?"

Ka...you do the poetic curtsey like so few can.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness ... only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate ... only love can do that.

Brilliant imagery....love the way you carry both levels of meaning right through from start to finish.

I was much intrigued by the metaphor used in this write. I did, however, find myself thinking both chess and checkers was the game at hand.

Queen me!

Enjoyed!

Me too, what Opeth said.

An interesting write, in a style as only you can do.

Thanks for reading, and I do tend to mix up the metaphors a bit, but actually this was just my bit of a tribute to a woman that I begrudgingly admire. Not sure that I would've LIKED her much, but I always did admire her.

Thanks for your patience with me, once again. I'll go read now.

Hmm...I really thought I had replied to this one.
Oh well...I'll do it right now.
I have to echo JM...nobody does it like you.
This is amazing, as always, my friend.
Hugs you!
