Picture by Josephine Wall * * * * I wrote this for someone I know who has been diagnosed with cancer and is currently going through gruelling chemotherapy treatment.I received a letter written by Alison which gave an insight into how she was dealing with her illness. The following is a quote from that letter which inspired me to write the poem. "Being diagnosed with cancer in many ways is a 'stripping experience' and a time when you need to develop all the 'self' you can get. The stripping of your identity makes you feel set apart, singled out from the herd. You are not like the others.I try to tell myself it's because I'm 'special'." * * * For Alison...... I cannot begin to imagine Just what you're going through But there are so many people Who think the world of you The cards that you've been dealt Have been of the cruelest kind As you try to search for answers They must seem so hard to find I stumble over my words Not quite knowing what to say As I extend my hand of friendship Via the words I now relay Through my words I try to reach you 'tho I've not seen you in a while But one thing I do remember Is your warm and friendly smile I am in motion |

(tears fall down my cheeks) God Bless You, dearest friend, I send many angel hugs your way as I know Alison will always cherish your friendship smile and it is just that that will help her get through this difficult time and heal! (wipes tears) You are an angel of poetry, sweet friend, a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down and you are sugar to her heart as you are sugar to this family, yay, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sue, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton Underneath your clothes, there's an endless story |

Keep the friendship, for what you have given Alison is a priceless gift. One she needs and surely will treasure... The best to both of you. |

Sometimes just reaching out is enough... “We are all travelers in the wilderness of this world, and the best that we can find in our travels is an honest friend.” –Robert Louis Stevenson |

A smile and a hand to hold mean so much. I'm sure your friend is grateful to just know you and know you are reaching out to her. Hugs, Marti |
