It’s Dinner Time

Dinner bell rings...

An appetizing aroma of
titillation overpowers
the human senses.
Sustenance found in
tasty morsels
of media munchies
served as TV dinners.

Feasting for 30 minutes,
we are satiated for now.
We leave the buffet table,
passing over
food for thought
for junk food served with
drink of our choice.

Some say our tastes
have changed. I say the
recipe has all the
same ingredients
of a traditional meal,
but now made quick ‘n easy
by the appliances of our age.

Patricia~
*giggles* from this lady who just got one of those fancy-dancy new-fangled 'glass-top' ranges~
Seems to actually take longer because of the care involved in the 'don't slide the pans' warning~
I'm used to 'slinging the hash' ... so hoping that practice makes perfect !

Gave me a real chuckle, ya' did !

Marge,
I am glad I made you chuckle.  I must admit I felt a bit like a beatnik when writing this one.  Now where is my bongo player?

LOL

Hi Patricia, Ahhh  the fast food generation eh? Yeah, we eat our fair share of it (hate to admit it) lol.  Actually I hardly ever eat it. But it’s hard to keep the kids away from it. Especially during the warmer part of the year. When its just too hot to turn on the stove, or oven.

We finally broke down and bought one of those Ron Popeil, Showtime rotisseries a few months ago. And let me tell you, it is a real fine product. We eat a LOT of chicken. And this machine cooks it so darn good. Even two whole birds, at once! And it hardly puts off any heat, so it’s really going to come in handy during the summer. And you just "set it, and fohgitaboutit!" Which is good, because even though I have a photographic memory, it doesn't offer same day service anymore... (!)

Hey, but if you make some decent choices, even fast food can be pretty nutritional. They have a lot of grilled chicken sandwiches, and if you omit the mayo (and cheeez... good luck huh?), and substitute with mustard (sound yucky? That’s what I do...lol) then that aint too bad. I just wish they had more whole wheat rolls, since I try to avoid any kind of processed flour products. Plus they got a lot of good salads coming out more and more too.

And then you got the darn mega soda’s ...lol. I hardly ever get them soda, unless they want a diet soda (Oooh Dad, they taste nasty!) unless of course, we’re on the road. But even then, I never travel without a case of bottled water in the car. And then the biggie supersized jumbo fries right? If they’re lucky, I’ll let them fight over a small fry or two...lol

Well any who, sometimes you just don’t got the time, or wherewithal to prepare a good meal. And so it’s either, “forage on your own kids.” Or, go out and get something, fast, quick, and in a hurry...

Hey, the other day, I found out, Dominoe’s takes checks...

Oh Geesh!

Nice write Patricia...

One, I could really relate to...

lol

rofl I know this!
I could have written this!
I SHOULD have written this!
I am the MASTER of this! lol
we don't actually buy 'real' food anymore. Well, we call canned food real, we get some of that, and a whollle lotta frozen stuff. But hey, no one's ever taught me to cook. So thats good enough excuse, right? I think so too
here's to frozen meals! *clinks pop can*

Now see?  I too have one of those new glass ranges and am enjoying the heck out of putting together some home cooked meals...I say - back to the past, where a meal was a meal, and didn't come from the box.

[But don't throw them out, just in case we get busy with our poetry!!!]

I actually enjoy cooking--because I like to eat what I cook!--but I have resorted to the "quick stuff" when I have been on the run. Can't beat the convenience at times!

Enjoyed your poem!

Warm hugs,
Linda

LOL  Patricia, I was looking for your poem you mentioned in my thread and came upon this one. I love it!! I can relate very well, too....well, not as much as Richey did. HeeHee!!  LOL  (he's a real talker, isn't he? almost as much as I am sometimes)

Anyway, like Linda, I love my own cooking...the only problem is that I don't know how to cook small amounts of my recipes....and I have made up some recipes big enough to feed very large amounts of people at Church functions.

So, unless I'm cooking some good ole Southern recipes where you fry or use tons of fat, I like the low-cal dinners that I can pop in the microwave.

A very good poem, friend. Now I'm going to try to find the one you mentioned.
Hugs
Ethel

I'm, with Linda I love to cook.
Gone are those days when I could eat a big mac and have it stay in me
