The Choctaw Kid was his name Never got old, stayed the same Quick to smile and pull a joke But never his wrath did you invoke Fast with gun, quick with knife Seemed his life was full of strife But it was neither, that brought him down Nor thrown horse bringing to ground Brave men trembled when he did walk He could beat an Indian in the stalk Any wild horse, he could ride A space would open where he would stride Alas, the Kid was brought to rest One fair day he did get best Not a bullet which bore his name But a wisp of girl that made him tame Soft of smile and flash of eye Was all it took to rope and hogtie Halter broke was the whispered cry But the Kid had ears only for Mollie’s sigh Now that is how the west was won Not with knife, nor roaring gun The Kid was tamed as was the west For a woman’s love will always best |
