"It's better to have loved and lost
than never to have loved at all"

No.

One who has
never loved
can never
fully understand

The dream
of Love for
one who hasn't
hunger

The loss for
one who has
starvation

To know Love
is to know ecstasy
beyond Heaven

To know its loss
is to know despair
beyond Hell

The warmth of
a lover's touch
and the chill
of its absence
lie somewhere
beyond description

                                                    Life
in a kiss Hello
Death
in kiss Goodbye

No.
Better to
have never loved
than to have
lost it all

I don't know what is the lesser of two evils, to love and to have lost,  or to never love at all!!!  But I won't ever give up and I will never stop believing that love will find a way if we're open to it...   I have seen too much, read too much, and yes, I care too much.

In the words of the great Raph: DAMN!

A powerful poem, I agree with every word. This is now my favourite of yours and not only am  saving it in my library, I'm printing it out.

I think it is easier never to have loved at all.

Maybe that is because I grew up in a time of "free love" and learned that it wasn't free and it wasn't love.

A great piece of work you did here.  Thank you for sharing it.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and kind words,
I honestly don't know if I agree about never loving at all..the real point of the poem is the fact that the pain of never having loved pales in comparison to those who have loved and lost. If you've never smoked you cannot understand the intense craving of nicotine in a smoker and likewise..

So true - without knowing something, we don't know our capacity for holding same to us...whether it be the adventure of travel, the joy of love, the gift of a child...if we haven't had it, we truly don't know the loss of it...

At first, I saw this as Kathleen did, and then I saw beyond it...

until we touch essence,
we just don't know its feel...

Your words ring true here m'friend. Me thinks it's better to have loved and lost then not to have loved at all. Even though it hurts.

Very beautiful dear Raffaele. I think we are born with a deep yearning for love, we carry the memory of love within and therefore the lack of it IS painful too. Better to have loved and lost it, than not having experienced it at all...... this is a theme that can be discussed forever!
Ti auguro di avere sempre tanto amore nella tua vita.
Abbracci. Margherita

Raph, this is one of the most beautiful poems of yours I read so far. You must have really been deeply in love at some time in your young life......or else you have so much love inside of you and wanting to share it with someone so badly.

This part really touched me.......

To know Love
is to know ecstasy
beyond Heaven

To know its loss
is to know despair
beyond Hell

The warmth of
a lover's touch
and the chill
of its absence
lie somewhere
beyond description

You would not have been able to write this if you were not the kind of person who loves very deeply whenever you do love.

Well, I guess I'll hush, because I could say what I believe about love all day, I guess.
I think I'll just write a love poem instead. LOL

Heart hugs to you, dear friend,
Ethel

(big hugggssssssss) Sorry, I'm going to have to strongly disagree with you here, though I do respect your poetry and opinions! (sigh) True that it stings so much to see love reveal lies and misfortunes, but then what are we living for? If it is nothing but discovering the truth, then that is pretty pathetic, there has to be some kind of recognition and love truly is a balance of it all! To never love is to never see, and we would be walking the world blind, and even if we only know love for a brief second and see a microcosm of the light, at least we can see some possibility of greater happenings! (sigh) Nevertheless you always have amazing thoughts and I appreciate your honest opinion, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Raphael, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Beautiful poem.

I have found when I can't edit or fix a phrase, that I delete the whole thing, retype it in instead of copying and pasting and usually it comes out correct.

Aenimal,
Got to thinking about this. What a pity not to know the depth of loves pain. Yes, what you do not know, you cannot feel. If you cannot feel then what's the point? Excellent poem.

Raph,

Most every painting,  poem,  war,  life
has been influenced by love held,  love
lost,  love felt,  forgotten,  wanted,
etc., etc., ad infinitum!

You add very well to the vast and ever growing
numbers...

Aenimal,

I, selfishly, am glad that you felt the anger and fustration enough to express it in this magnificent verse. This is one for my library.
