Sipping Lemonade On A Warm Afternoon |

Relaxing at the back porch Sipping at my lemonade; Dreaming dreams of how I wish My life could be arrayed I wish I was a poet Read by countless thousands Reaching out to touch the hearts Of those in distant lands I wish I could find someone Who will be more than my wife, But will be my closest friend For the remainder of my life I wish I could have several Of what Anne calls “bosom friends” Kindred spirits always near Those on whom I can depend As I took another sip I had a sudden thought— Life’s not life till we’re content With whatever it has brought! I’ve been blessed with many friends I have friends of all ages— From youngsters packed with fun To life’s time-produced sages And though I don’t have a wife I have been blessed even so, I have more brothers and sisters Than anyone else I know— And though I am not famous I have a gift in poetry, And I’d rather change one life Then have millions know of me… And then I have this blessing That I’m holding in my hand— Mmm! This is good lemonade! Yes, life is certainly grand! --- [This message has been edited by El_Campeador (05-22-2003 09:05 AM).] |

The secret of happiness is counting the blessings, not the daydreams. Sounds like you know that very well |

Dont ya just love Deers wisdom filled replies this is a wonderful offering of sincere rhymes divine written by a wise poet. Well done!! So nice to have you back posting again. I refuse to accept that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism & war that the daybreak of peace can never be reality. |

E_C, ================= And though I am not famous I have a gift in poetry, And I’d rather change one life Then have millions know of me… ================= I didn't know there was so much wisdom in that lemonade. Gotta cup you can share? Very will written based an excellent theory of life. Love it. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

I really liked this poem. I would have written ONE LITTLE line differently ... I would have written : "But will be my closest friend" "For the rest of my life" To be : "But will be my closest friend" "For the (balance or remainder) of my life" I'd do this just for the sake of meter (But I am no expert) Over all I really enjoyed it. Oh and one other note. You are on PASSIONS! I'd venture to guess that your poetry DOES touch thousands in many countries. ... There is no normal life Wyatt, just life ... so live! |

Thank you all for your replies... Keep living life and learning (it doesn't have to be over lemonade ) Blessings, El Campeador P.S. Lonely Stranger, I like your suggestion for changing "rest" to "remainder". Since this poem was a little long, and I was quite busy yesterday, I didn't take as much time with the meter as I would have liked. Thanks for the help “We are all travelers in the wilderness of this world, and the best that we can find in our travels is an honest friend.” –Robert Louis Stevenson |

Wow! Your words took me right there on the porch swing sipping lemonade as the warm Summer breeze brushed past my face. As you can see, I really enjoyed your poem Benjamin and you touched the heart of someone in a very distant land. Thank you for the beauty in your words. Take care......Sue I am in motion |
