Take me For a Ride

Take me in your car with all that chrome
and blow my hair across my face
like I was eighteen and new
in your yellow shine your tuck and roll
intoxicates me and the sound
of your breathing engine ignites my....

oh take me for a ride in leather
in your open door to the sky
to the star studded
flame you paint

rum de rum strum wheels
circle me with this highway dance
and I will read your map yes
and take you places
places where turbo charge is a feeling yes
and the night is metallic
and I see myself in the reflection
of your oh so sweet and clean delivery

Take me in your car with all that chrome
and blow my hair across my face
like I was eighteen and new

smiling...

I know the freedom of this, except for me, it was on the back of a Harley...

this translates exhilaration!

You made me smile.  Thank you.

When I was a young man, I lived near a small private women's college that was known for enforcing a strict behavioral code.

I rode a bright red '55 HD hard tail dual exhaust panhead with big fatbob tanks at the time.  The seat was the kind that looked like an oversized single seat but actually would hold two people.  The way it was made, the passenger would slide forward as the bike rode until the person was tightly pressed against my back.  I learned early that at certain engine speeds, the vibrations would come up through the seat, with predictable effects on passengers.

On nice days in, early autumn and late spring, I would drive up to the front of one of the women's dorm buildings at this local college, stop at the curb and "blip" the throttle a few times.  Usually, I would appear on a Thursday or a Friday afternoon when the weather was nice and the breeze was soft.

I could only sit there a few minutes before the nuns would come out and chase me off with threats of police, but most times I would feel someone climb on the seat behind me and wrap her arms around me and I would ride off with my prize.  I always made it a point NOT to look to see who it was until we were a few miles from the place.  Turning ariound to look always mde me feel like I was peaking under the wrapping paper of a gift.

Sometimes we would just ride around the state and I would bring the person back in time for curfew.  Sometimes I would buy the person dinner at a road house somewhere far enough away for her to not be known.  Every once in a while one would get on with a folded up blanket;  that was usually a woman with a "mission."  *smile*

I haven't thought about those days in a long time; thanks for sparking the memory.

Oh Martie, my friend, this wonderful poem
brought back some delightful memories for
your readers...yep, for me too!!

Mine were from a little tiny Sports car convertible
and from the back of a mortorcycle, too.
Hugs,
Ethel

(Pssttt!! This sure did bring back some
good memories for Icebox, didn't it?)

Martie - I'll pick you up at 12th street and Vine, and we'll go for a ride to the mountains. Of course I must play you a song, one for a special lady...
